ABSTRACT:

With the steady developments of multimedia communications in low cost Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSN), joint design of multimedia compression, secure communication and energy efficient resource allocation algorithms is now a key issue. This presentation gives a fundamental understanding of the relationship between high level multimedia signal processing and low level wireless networking protocol design. In particular, this work uniquely addresses two fundamental challenges: 1) optimizing cross layer communication architecture with energy efficiency and service quality assurance for WMSN; and 2) effective protection and authentication of large-sized digital multimedia streams over wireless links. By unifying multimedia selective encryption and stream authentication as well as the inborn unequal importance nature of the multimedia streaming, the resource allocation efficiency can be significantly improved with limited computation and communication overheads.
