ABSTRACT:
Abstract 1:
Unified Curvilinear Ocean and Atmosphere Model (UCOAM) is part of General Curvilinear Environmental Model (GCEM) developed at Computational Science Research Center of San Diego State University. GCEM has several modules. In this talk, a quick overview of different modules available in GCEM is given. UCOAM is explained in more details. UCOAM is a non-hydrostatic LES model, capable of reading curvilinear orthogonal and non-orthogonal grid in all three dimension including the vertical. Furthermore, the interaction of bottom bathymetry with the flow field and particularly the vertical component of the velocity in a fully curvilinear grid and a sigma grid are presented.
Abstract 2:
Computer simulations become more realistic as they include interactions between different physical phenomena. The General Curvilinear Environmental Model (GCEM), is a project which includes the General Curvilinear Coastal Ocean Model (GCCOM), an ocean model that uses a general curvilinear staggered mesh, and the General Curvilinear Atmosphere Model (GCAM), among other models. Here, we focus on the design of a flexible, scalable and distributed coupling library for High Performance Computing applications, the Distributed Coupling Toolkit (DCT). This coupler is used to combine the simulations between the GCCOM and GCAM. We compare the approach in DCT with other coupling approaches and report some preliminary results. Lastly, we mention future plans and propose some applications.
