ABSTRACT:
Bose-Einstein condensation of ultra-cold atomic gases has become an
attractive research topic which draws on distinct fields such as
nuclear and atomic physics and nonlinear science.
The current talk will give a brief introduction on the band-structure
of a Bose-condensed gas loaded into an optical lattice with special
emphasis on the so-called spatially period-doubled states
(see Phys. Rev. A 69, 043604 for the theoretical discussion and
cond-mat/0504311 for the experimental observation) and half-period
excitations (see cond-mat/0510711). I will then discuss the frequency
locking phenomenon that can be seen in Bose-condensed gases. The
computational needs associatated with our in silico experiments
with Bose-condensed gases will also be discussed.
