ABSTRACT:
The aging population of the U.S is living longer, more racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse. Even more urgent is the fact that nearly 60% of all cancers diagnosed are among this population (age 65+). Conversely, our health care delivery system is not prepared to delivery high-quality, equitable care that is also capable of meeting the more complex, unique needs of this diverse and dynamic aging population that is only homogenous in their age and so diverse in their function, cognition, geographic and aging location, in addition to their unique cultural, dietary, and linguistic needs. AI and machine-learning interventions are ubiquitous in health care delivery but are not often designed to the unique needs of older adults, further, they often lack the structural, contextual, and linguistic capacity to participate in telehealth and telemedicine interventions. This talk will discuss this heterogenous population, their needs, and some population and AI/machine learning opportunities that can help improve and support the health aging of U.S. older adults.
