ABSTRACT:
Internet GIS and web mapping services, such as Google Earth, Google Map, Bing Maps, have become more and more important for many research projects related to geospatial technologies. This colloquium will introduce two aspects of Internet GIS. Internet Mapping (using the Internet as a mapping tool) will highlight the current technology development of Web mapping services and the future development (including cloud computing and grid computing). Future directions of Internet mapping on geospatial cyberinfrastructure will include Mobile GIS and crowdsourcing information. The second part will focus on the mapping of the Internet (using GIS to create an information landscape about the messages and posts on the Internet). This topic will introduce the newly funded NSF CDI project research and related concepts.
