ABSTRACT:

G-equation, a partial differential equation (PDE)introduced in 80’s, is a well-known model in turbulent combustion to measure the flame propagation speed. In this talk, I will briefly go over the derivation and development of the equation, present several mathematically interesting and physically meaningful problems and corresponding important math tools. The talk will not involve technical details and should be accessible to people with knowledge of multivariable calculus. Some basic knowledge in PDE will be helpful in better understanding the contents, but not absolutely necessary.
