ABSTRACT:
Granular crystals are tightly packed arrangements of solid particles that deform
on contact with each other. In this talk, I will give an introduction to granular
crystals, and I will then discuss my recent work — theoretical, computational,
and experiment — with collaborators on the propagation and scattering of
nonlinear waves in disordered one-dimensional granular crystals. I will
consider both low-disorder and high-disorder chains and will explore nonlinear
analogs of Anderson-like phenomena.
