ABSTRACT: Highly efficient software programs, unprecedented compute power, and intuitive multiscale modeling environments have made computational materials science an integral part of research and development. This talk will focus on how these powerful tools can be applied to industrially relevant problems in diverse domains such as electronic devices, catalysis, nuclear, and pharmaceutical industries. The presentation concludes with an outlook on the impact of machine-learning and AI on the field.
BIO: Dr. Gerhard Engel leads Strategy and Innovation at Materials Design Inc., a San Diego-based provider of software for atomistic and multiscale simulations of materials. Gerhard brings decades of expertise building and commercializing software solutions for science-based industries. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge, UK and has published more than 30 scientific papers.
