The ocean, covering
nearly two thirds of the entire planet
earth and exchanging gas, aerosols,
and energy with the Atmosphere, has
a great impact on the Atmosphere and
the human life, which makes it an
essential and inevitable part of our
environment to study and understand.
General Curvilinear Ocean Model -
Next Generation (GCOM-NG) is part
of a broader project called General
Curvilinear Environmental Model (GCEM),
addressing the high-resolution simulations
and modeling of the currents in the
coastal region. GCOM-NG uses general
curvilinear coordinates that allows
for wider range of geometry of the
physical domain and better optimizations
of the grid node distribution to reduce
the grid-induced numerical errors.
Furthermore, as the GCOM-NG is to
be used in very high-resolution studies,
a fully non-hydrostatic approach is
used to obtain the pressure field.
In this paper, firstly GCOM-NG is
introduced and a brief description
of GCEM is given. Later, the model
result for classical test cases is
shown. |
