| Abstract
|
| The oil and gas industry
are a perfect target for applications
of mathematics techniques. From subsurface
exploration to production, refining,
transport and finally distribution
of oil, gas and products, real life
mathematical and decision problems
arise continuously. This mini-workshop
aims at bringing together scientists
and engineers from academia, research
laboratories, and industry, to promote
the application mathematics techniques
to the oil and gas industry problems.
Papers on all aspects of mathematical
theory, and computational and applied
mathematics focus to solve oil and
gas industry problem are invited to
be presented at the mini-workshop. |

3D Seismic Survey Design |
 |
In this work we present a 3D seismic
survey design tool for oil exploration.
The geological media is modeled using
layers. Each layer is characterized
by a constant velocity. The acquisition
geometry is designed by the user or
loaded from a file in SPS, RPS and
XPS format. We have implemented seismic
ray tracing as an optimization problem.
The tool was tested on a real world
case, the Orocual field, Estado Monagas,
Venezuela. The results show three
fundamental aspects: the procedure
is automatic requiring little user
intervention while showing good efficiency
and robustness.
