This work proposes the creation
of an ontological framework from
Colombian orchids for an Intelligent
Search System that could be used
by members of botanic research centers
and software agents interested in
sharing their knowledge. The computational
ontology lets to classify the orchid
species presents in Colombia on
a semantic level, identifying and
semantically distinguishing (through
axioms and rules) the genera of
the Orchidaceae family. The ontology
is based on the observable features
presents in each plant (Top level
concepts), their classification,
preservation and general properties.
Protege, Racer and Prolog are the
development tools employed for creating
the prototype that uses the defined
ontology for performing intelligent
searches, identifying and classifying
the Orchids.
