Estimate of 5 parameters that define the vertical chlorophyll profile through the use of genetic algorithms. We present examples of its application and compared with those of the most used technique to date. The use of genetic algorithms has advantages over the standard method, especially in the calculation of the depth of deep chlorophyll maximum and the inclusion of vertical gradient of concentration.
