S-STEM Program Overview
The Scholarships for Undergraduate Student Participation in Computational Science and Engineering Research program is available to assist academically talented, financially needy students to explore opportunities for computational modeling and simulation research in science and engineering disciplines. Participation in this scholarship program will provide students the opportunity to join a research lab and get trained to work on computational research projects, making them better prepared to enter the workforce as a full-fledged professional or join leading research groups as graduate students. The scholarships are available to science and engineering students who are in their junior or senior year and are considering future graduate studies.
This National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded scholarship program, referred to by the acronym S-STEM (for scholarships in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), will provide yearly scholarships of $5,000 for juniors entering the program and $6,000 for seniors returning to the program for their second year.
To qualify, students must be U. S. citizens or permanent residents and must meet the criterion of financial need as determined by the U.S. Department of Education. The scholarship award provided by the NSF-SDSU STEM Scholars program will become a part of each student's overall financial aid package. (Financial aid packages can be composed of a mixture of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study monies, up to the amount of the cost of attendance.) The Scholarships for Undergraduate Student Participation in Computational Science and Engineering Research program is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation and managed by SDSU's Computational Science Research Center.
