ABSTRACT:

A scramjet engine is a kind of air breathing engines, which works at very high flight Mach number at 5 and more. It is a candidate for the next space shuttle’s engine, but the understanding of the phenomena in the combustor is still insufficient. The flowfield in the scramjet combustor is supersonic high enthalpy and low Damkohler number flow. In supersonic flow, the flowfield can be influence and changed easily by inserting a probe, and therefore it is very difficult to measure flow properties such as temperature, velocity, gas composition and so on experimentally. In such situation, numerical approach helps us to understand the phenomena inside the combustor. In this seminar, I introduce some results obtained by the numerical investigation and also introduce our Gifu University of Japan briefly.
