TIME: 3:30 PM
LOCATION: GMCS 314
SPEAKER: Samuel Shen, San Diego State University, Mathematics and Statistics
ABSTRACT: iCHARM (Cyber Hub for Analytics, Research and Monitoring) is an interactive, AI-enabled data science system for visualizing, delivering, analyzing, and interpreting space-time data. It makes NOAA data in various space-time scales, from hourly to monthly and from grid to stations, accessible, intuitive, and informative for users of all backgrounds, including schoolchildren, businesses, governmental personnel, and researchers. In education, iCHARM’s video game psychology and technology let classrooms use real-world, large weather datasets. iCHARM, like AlphaFold for protein data, democratizes weather science, forecasting, and risk analysis, and can increase weather data-analysis efficiency by hundreds of times. This presentation will show you how to use iCHARM to monitor and analyze the developing super 2026/27 El Niño. Please bring your laptop or tablet with you to this presentation. You can follow along and produce professional-level images and animations related to the El Niño event. After this session, you will be able to independently monitor and analyze this El Niño and help Californians better prepare for the state of emergency declared by the governor on September 21, 2006.
