The Computational Science program at San Diego State University offers a Advanced Certificate degree.

The Advanced Certificate in Professional Computational Science is designed to provide for private and public industry professionals as well as graduate students who wish to learn professional and technical computational skills in their fields. Skills include: use of tools available for scientific applications development (particularly those targeted for parallel and distributed computer systems), scientific visualization, database query, simulation and modeling packages, computational templates such as Matlab and Maple, and the choice of appropriate hardware resources for different classes of problems.

The certificate will certify that a student has received training in computational techniques applicable to his or her primary field of study. This will include: tools available for scientific application development (particularly those targeted at parallel and distributed systems) scientific visualization and database query applications, simulation and modeling packages, computational "templates" such as MatLab and Maple, and the choice of appropriate hardware resources for different classes of computational problems.

The advanced certificate degree requires 12 units to include COMP 526, 601, 626, and 670.
