The talk will present an
overview and some highlights from the
biomathematics happening
around SDSU with special emphasis on available
student projects. The projects described include the
efforts of two
vertically integrated study
groups: the mitochondrion group and the phage
group. The questions studied by the mitochondrion group
concern membrane
shape and energetics on the one hand and image restoration and
interpretation on the other. The questions studied by the phage
group range
wider and include metagenomics, population modeling, evolutionary games,
phylogenetics, ultrametric spaces, and Googlean random walks.
